Hello, friends! It's Friday and I wanted to break away from my routine a little because frankly, I didn't know what to write about today. So just for fun, I decided try Kate Motaung's Five Minute Friday which she hosts on her blog. (I found her on Facebook)
Today's prompt is "park". Go
When I hear the word "park" it conjures up great memories from my childhood. I used to ride my bike to the local park in the summer, which also housed the community pool. I'd meet my friend, Amy, at her house and we'd go and spend the entire day swimming, jumping off the low dive and eating Chick-o-sticks. Does anyone remember those? Kind of like the inside of a Butter Finger, but no chocolate. One summer I even got up enough courage to jump off of the high dive. I don't think I did that too many times, though.
As I think about "park" later in my life, that reminds me of the restaurant in PA and OH called "Eat 'n Park." They always had cute smiley face cookies and we'd get them for our daughters on the way out of the restaurant. It was a great place to meet friends, hang out, and catch up over good food and good coffee.
Those are good memories. I still like to take walks in the park, but don't as often as I should. These days I need to do that for my health. Actually, that sounds like a great idea for this afternoon. Memories are good for the soul.
Proverbs 17:22, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
Stop.
Well, that was a fun Friday writing exercise. Enjoy the diversion and your Friday. What do you think of when you hear the word "park"? What makes you cheerful!
