Today, I'm continuing my reflections on "Uninvited" by Lysa TerKeurst. Chapter 7 is all about When Our Normal Gets Snatched. Wow, that is a loaded statement. I don't know about you, but I like the "known", the "predictable", the "comfortable", and the "normal".
Our normal can get "snatched" from us almost daily..a bad day, a bad report card, an ugly comment from a co-worker, a change in employment, health issues..the list goes on and on. We try to hang on to what we know, but to no avail.
"I'm reminded how unpredictable circumstances can shatter and forever change what I know and love about my life. And in the fallout, some pieces never find a way to fall back into place." (pg. 76)
What are we to do when "our normal gets snatched"? We need to "focus upward" on Jesus. We need to grab hold of His grace. In order "to love God, we need to cooperate with His grace." (pg. 82) Grace has been defined as "God's Riches At Christ's Expense". It is God giving me something I didn't deserve or earn.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT) "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it."
We can also give that grace to others when they have rejected or hurt us. It is a gift to them and to us. We can move on in our relation with others and with Jesus!
Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
Take hold of God's amazing grace today, so that you will be victorious in Him. Let Him lead you into a "new normal". Who knows...maybe it's better because He knows us best!
