My husband and I are leading a retreat this weekend. As I was deciding what to write for today, I looked up the meaning of "retreat". It is the "act of withdrawing, as into safety or privacy; seclusion." It can also be "a place of refuge" or a "time to get away for a period of time for religious exercises and meditation."
All of those definitions describe what I'm looking forward to this weekend. I get to withdraw from the busyness of life. Before we arrived at the retreat, we were able to spend some time with my parents. Seeing my parents and being in the house where I grew up, is always a "place of refuge" for me.
Now we are in the lovely mountains of PA. It is definitely a place of seclusion, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We are with dear friends from a church that we used to serve. We will worship, pray, and open the Word for spiritual nourishment and meditation. We will also gather around the table for physical nourishment (this place has AWESOME cooks) and relaxation as we talk, catch up and play cards or board games.
When I take some time to withdraw or retreat, I believe it gives Jesus room to work. It revives my soul and re-focuses my mind on Him and what is truly important.
You may not be able to treat yourself to a weekend retreat; but I pray that you may enjoy some time for yourself this weekend, even if it's just for a few minutes.
