Have you ever had an experience with hearing (or sensing) the Lord's voice and knowing it was Him? I had that experience with a box the other morning. (Balaam had a donkey, I had a box.)
I left for work at my usual time, while it was still dark outside. I noticed something on the road. At first, it appeared to be something metal, and I thought I'd go around it and leave it there. Then, I realized that Jonathan would be coming this same way in just a little while and I didn't want him to hit it. I thought about calling him but then felt the nudge of Jesus to stop, get out, and move the box. Thankfully no one was out that early in the morning, so I stopped the car, kept my headlights on, and grabbed the box by the handle. I could then see that it was just an empty box that once held a new air fryer that probably blew around from atop a garbage can. I placed it in the yard, just off the road, and returned to my car to finish the journey to work. As I started rolling again, the Lord said, "Just as easily as you moved that box, I will remove the obstacles in your way."
Wow...thank You, Jesus! I had a situation at work that had started the previous day and I knew it was going to continue into my Friday. I was not looking forward to going back into this situation. I didn't want to fight, but it felt big and out of control. As a supervisor, I knew I couldn't ignore it. I needed the Lord's guidance and I prayed.
Jonathan sent a text of encouragement once I arrived at work. It included Joshua 1:3-6 (NIV) and it brought me much peace.
"I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them." (emphasis mine)
As I continued to prepare both physically and spiritually for the day, I felt the Lord's strength and courage begin to rise in my spirit. Then, the Lord reminded me of the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles and said that indeed I would not have to fight, but I just needed to stand.
"You need not fight in this battle; take your positions, stand and witness the salvation of the Lord who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you." 2 Chronicles 20:17 (Amplified Bible, emphasis mine)
I clocked in as the time had arrived to face the situation. I was grateful for God's words to me to stand in His presence. I did not need to say a word as He fought in the heavenlies and diffused what could have been a volatile situation.
What obstacles stand in your way? Pray and watch Jesus fight for you...stand in His presence and abide with Him!
