Determine - "to settle or decide by choice of alternatives or possibilities." Some people like to determine which way is best, but as a recovering perfectionist, Enneagram 1 (wing 9); alternatives can be crippling. What if I'm wrong? What if it doesn't work out or I don't like it? What happens if it's not perfect? That's why I love Proverbs 16:9:
"We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps." (NLT)
"We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it." (The Message)
I can make my plans, but God actually determines the steps or helps settle the choices. It's not all on my shoulders. As I grow in intimacy with the Father, and I delight in Him, His desires become my desires as I seek to trust and follow Him.
"Find your delight and true pleasure in Yahweh, and He will give you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust Him along the way, you’ll find He pulled it off perfectly!" Psalm 37:4-5 (TPT)
He gives me a choice and He's not just sitting in heaven hoping that I will pick "THE" right one. He works all things together for my good...according to His purpose; Romans 8:28.
I don't understand ALL that He does or walks me through; because I cannot fully see or understand His viewpoint. I do trust that He will work things out for my good and for His purpose in my life or in another person's life that I will encounter as I walk with Him. I can trust His heart in all things; whatever He determines is best for me, is more than I can ever think or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20-21 TPT)
This post was prompted by Kate Motaung's "Five Minute Friday," which she hosts on the Five Minute Friday website. Kate posts a single word each week and each blogger sets a timer for 5 minutes to write and then posts, with little editing. (Some weeks I have more trouble with that part than others.) Check out the other writers this week!
