Read: Proverbs 14
Verse: 30 (NLT)
"A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones."
My "one word" for 2017 was peace. I recently looked up the definition of peace: "freedom of the mind from annoyance, distraction, anxiety, an obsession; tranquillity; serenity; stillness, silence."
I'm not sure that I've attained peace this year, but like Paul, I have "strained for the prize" Philippians 3:14. I have let go of a lot of worry, self-doubt, and fear in the past year. I like the promise in this verse that a peaceful heart "leads" to a healthy body. It doesn't say it will automatically come, but it leads in that direction.
I love how the message puts it: "A sound mind makes for a robust body, but runaway emotions corrode the bones." That has definitely been me at times...worry and fear in the past have left me tired and worn out.
I'm so grateful for His on-going work of peace in my life.
