As I look around my home, I see many tables. End tables that hold books and lamps; our large coffee table which supports our tv. The dining room table where meals are shared, books are read, laundry is folded and games are played. I'm also reminded of an important table where I gather with others monthly. A place where grace is shared and received at the Communion Table.
It is a place to gather to remember Christ's sacrifice on the Cross to save me and all of humanity from death. It is a place to gather as the family of Christ and to express our immense gratefulness that He chose us to be with Him for eternity.
I may take the tables in my home or at work for granted. However, I pray that I will never take the Communion Table and what it represents in my local church, my community of faith, for granted. May it always be a reminder of a place to gather, to receive and offer His forgiveness, love, mercy and grace.
Our choir has recently ministered with this beautiful song, Come to the Altar, from Elevation Worship. On Communion Sunday we sang the chorus with these words:
"O come to the Table
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ"
May you be blessed as you listen to this song and remember why we gather around The Table.
This post was prompted by Kate Motaung's "Five Minute Friday," which she hosts on the Five Minute Friday website. Kate posts a single word each week and each blogger sets a timer for 5 minutes to write and then posts, with little editing. (Some weeks I have more trouble with that part than others.)
