Read: Proverbs 1
Verses: 2-3 (NLT)
"Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair."
Today's key verses talk about reading God's Word and gaining discipline and wisdom. Somedays I think the wisdom part is easier than the discipline part. I like to think of wisdom being "knowledge in action" or knowledge being applied to a situation. Of ALL of the things that Solomon asked the Lord for, he chose wisdom! I think God was pleased with his choice. Just because we have the Biblical knowledge, doesn't mean we are necessarily fully equipped for a specific situation. We need to pray for God's wisdom in the situation.
Sometimes, God shows me something or places someone on my heart and I KNOW I'm to only pray. At other times, He has asked me to speak to that person. Sometimes, He asks me to speak AND pray with the person about the situation. That is where the discipline comes in. It is so easy to just spout off my personal opinion, or share MORE than what I should. Especially when I see something that NEEDS to be changed. It's hard to "put on the brakes" and listen and obey God, but oh, my friend, it is worth it! Allow the Holy Spirit to enable you to apply the brakes. Don't worry...God will put you in the right place at the right time and will give you EVERYTHING you need.
So...what do YOU need wisdom or discipline for today?
