Last week, our Christmas gift to each other was realized as we had our offices (once our daughters' rooms) updated with fresh paint. We chose Sherwin-Williams Rose', which has a slight purple undertone and not as much pink. However, now that I have moved in with new bedding, a new desk, and a printer stand/filing cabinet, I love it!
I'm thankful that we chose to have a staycation off from work because it has afforded us the extra time needed to clean out files, purge books, and other unused items that have sat in our attic and closets for far too many years. At times, it has been a bit overwhelming emotionally as I walk down memory lane looking at old photos, school programs, church bulletins, cards, and letters from loved ones that are no longer with us. It also feels good to let go of years of items that we no longer love, use, or don't "spark joy" anymore. I pray that our trips to the donation center will help others along their journey.
It has truly been a time to mend - to put into good shape, into working order again. When there is too much stuff (like 30 pens I don't use or like), it's hard to see what is useful or needed. I'm taking the time to sift through and let go of things in my office space so I can enjoy it more. A space where I can linger by reading, journaling, or other times of being productive.
As I was reflecting, I realized that God is also mending and healing my heart, putting my heart back into good shape. I'm taking the time to slow down, read His word, and reflect on 2025. There was much grief in losing Dad so suddenly, and as we stepped away from full-time ministry. God has been with me every step of the way; I'm grateful that Jesus is my "heart mender". Even though it's not in this beautiful song by Leeland, I believe it fits. May you see Jesus as your "waymaker, miracle worker," and heart mender. May He be the "light in the darkness" of your grief or trials.
